Why Does God Need OUR Worship?

I have been thinking that the whole idea that if we are indeed the offspring of God, and that we do have the potential of becoming LIKE him, then that he REQUIRES us to WORSHIP him, ie. be on our hands and knees, kissing his feet and groveling before him to hopefully get some sort of approval is...ABSURD.


I am happy that God gave me a physical body, and that the Earth was created for us, and I believe that God deserves all the praise and kudos for doing that for us, but...

I think of the idea that I have gone out and bought one of my kids a bike, and then he comes back on hands and knees and starts praying and worshiping me. I would tell him to stop groveling and to desist immediately.

Or if God is SO FAR AHEAD of us, like we are to the ants, would we care if the ants worship us, because we have the ability to stomp on them?

As I was sitting there thought thinking of the whole God 'worship' in sacrament though, it just seemed...odd. Like a man made idea more for the leadership to exert control then ANYTHING that God would NEED. I mean is God's power diminished if we AREN'T worshipping him in fear and trembling?

And if God knows what we need before we ask, but we still need to ask, in order to be rewarded, then doesn't that make him a respecter of persons, and more of a megalomaniac?
